This morning the meteorologist told me it is 27 degrees and feels like 17 degrees. To me that sounds teeth chatteringly cold, when you can see your own breath and it starts to crystalize! Just a little side thought - wouldn't it be really neat if when you can see your own breath it is different colors to let you know if you have fresh breath (light blue) - garlic breath (avocado green) - just woke up breath (mud brown)...Sorry, on with my first thought.
Going on into the elements is indeed one of the last things I want to do. The sun is shining but I know the luscious warmth is not going to find its way to my body! Zoey, my bloodhound/lab, is crouched at the back door wiggling her hindquarters in anticipation. From my viewpoint I am looking at getting into a cold car with cold seats a cold seatbelt and a cold steering wheel. Zoey sees a playground of possibilities. I need a scarf, headband, mittens {they keep me warmer than gloves}, sweat pants and sweat shirt, heavy winter coat, thick socks and sturdy shoes. Zoey only needs the colossal grin on her face. I open the door, shivering before the air even touches me, snuggle deep into my clothing and take a step outside. Zoey lurches forward at full speed, one graceful launch off the short wall at the end of the patio and flying into the pine tree branches so they will flap-a-flap-a-flap up and down. She circles around to take in the view of her great accomplishment. But only for a second before she gallops off to another adventure.
The only running I may do is a slow jog to the car and slamming the door against the wind. I breath short breathes to keep the cold from freezing my lungs and get the car started so it will warm up and I can turn the heater on. Zoey has now spotted the 30 foot garden hose that is now in about 7 pieces in the back yard. She clamps down on a section of what used to carry rain runoff safely out into the yard and shakes her head furiously from side to side feeling the hose flailing about like a garden snake who finally surrendered. But even that doesn't last long for Zoey, there are so many interesting objects in the yard to discover and play with.
If I could think like Zoey...
