Have you ever been shopping with a 4 year old? You have to get a firm grip on their hand while walking. Why?... great that you asked. The world is full of bright, shiney objects that glitter and glisten; enticing smells; loud wonderfully funny sounds; and beautiful textures just waiting to be touched and carressed, that capture their imagination and attention. Kind of like what happens to me walking past a Russell Stovers, Auntie Anne's or an outdoor market.
In the same way that a four year old can be drawn away from the safety of walking with a loved one, I can be enticed away from my walk with God. I read this past week that even when I veer off the track God is still holding my hand. It reminded me of shopping with my children when they were little. Wonderful sights, sounds, smells and sounds would grasp their attention away from me. But all along I would be holding their hand, guiding them in a safe direction. God does that with me. I have a tendency to wander off and sometimes even think I know enough to take control. In the past I have felt like when I wander away I have this huge abyss that I have to swim, trek, sweat and drudge my way back into His presence. But I really don't have to do all that...God has been holding my hand all this time...all I have to do is look up and feel my hand in His. With God I don't have to know the agenda and be on time because He is in control and is always here...holding my hand...whether I am crawling, walking, skipping or running. What a comforting feeling.
